Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to understand the health perceptions of different cultures, gain cultural competence, and develop cultural sensitivity.

Course Content

This course aims to equip students with the ability to understand the impact of different cultural beliefs and values on health, illness, and healthcare delivery. By embracing the concepts of cultural competence and sensitivity, students will develop their knowledge and skills in providing effective and ethical healthcare to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Learning Outcomes
1.Analyzes the perspectives of different cultures on fundamental concepts such as health, illness, pain, and death, as well as their traditional beliefs and practices.
2.Becomes aware of their own cultural biases and assumptions, and develops empathy and respect for different cultures.
3.Develops and implements effective and accurate communication strategies with patients, their relatives, and colleagues, taking cultural differences into account.
4.Identifies cultural barriers in healthcare access and delivery, such as language barriers, differences in beliefs, and conflicts in cultural values.
5.Gains the ability to create culturally sensitive and personalized care plans that meet the needs of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
6.Evaluates the cultural dimensions of global health issues like migration and refugee status, and contributes a cultural perspective to healthcare strategies for these groups.
7.Analyzes ethical dilemmas and legal responsibilities that may arise from cultural differences in healthcare services, and proposes solutions.
