The aim of this course is to equip students in the Emergency and First Aid Program with the fundamental principles and skills of effective communication in healthcare, enabling them to communicate accurately, empathetically, and professionally with patients, their relatives, and healthcare teams; and to develop their competence in managing communication-related problems in emergency medical service processes. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to contribute to patient safety and service quality by using appropriate communication techniques during crises, stressful, and traumatic situations.

The course covers fundamental concepts of communication in healthcare, effective communication with patients and their families, empathy, active listening, verbal and nonverbal communication, team communication, communication in crisis and stress situations, communication with difficult patients and their families, cultural sensitivity, ethical principles, and communication skills in emergency medical services. Students will gain the ability to communicate accurately, clearly, safely, and professionally, particularly in pre-hospital emergency care settings.
