Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the routine histochemical methods applied in the pathology and histology laboratory and to introduce spesific histochemical stains

Course Content

Introduction of the pathology laboratory, understanding its operation, solution types, fixation, tissue tracking, blocking, sectioning, Hematoxylin&Eosin staining method, introduction of special histochemical dyes

Learning Outcomes
1.Recognize the tools and materials in the laboratory.
2.Know the types of solutions and explain how to prepare.
3.Define fixation, know the fixative types and explain how to prepare.
4.Gains knowledge about decalcification in bones.
5.Learn tissue tracking methods and processes in tissue processing; learn manual tissue tracking; know tissue tracking with tissue tracking device; learn fixation, dehydration, clearing and paraffinization stages and chemicals used; have information about taking sections from blocks.
6.Know the general properties and staining theories of histochemical dyes; learn the basic staining techniques used in histopathology.
7.Gain knowledge about Hematoxylin&Eosin dye; explain the basic principles in the staining protocol.
8.Explain other special staining methods commonly used in histopathological diagnosis and evaluate which staining methods can be used. Learn dyes used in histopathological diagnosis of connective tissue, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, amyloid deposits, lipid, blood tissue, pigments and minerals. Define histochemical staining methods and explains other special staining methods commonly used in histopathological diagnosis, evaluate which staining methods can be used
