The aim of this course is to enable students to learn the contemporary scientific foundations of pain, question common misconceptions about pain, recognize the biological, psychological, and social factors affecting pain, and develop pain awareness and self-management skills that can be utilized throughout life.
Definition of pain. Biopsychosocial approach. Fundamentals of pain neuroscience. Pain mechanisms and classification of pain. Relationship between pain and tissue damage. Danger and safety signals in pain. Sensitization and neuroplasticity. Behavioral and environmental factors affecting pain. Education, exercise, graded exposure, and self-management in pain management.
