Objectives of the Course

To teach the basic principles of pharmacology; to understand the mechanisms of action, side effects, contraindications and drug-drug/drug-food interactions of drugs commonly used in dialysis patients. To ensure that students provide conscious and safe health services in drug applications.

Course Content

This course covers the basic concepts of pharmacology, drug interactions in the body, drug classification and drug groups commonly used especially in dialysis patients. Drug dose calculation, drug interactions and drug safety issues are also covered.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explain the basic concepts of pharmacology.
2.Interpret the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of drugs.
3.Identify drugs commonly used in dialysis patients and explain their mechanisms of action.
4.Have information about side effects, contraindications and interactions of drugs.
5.Adopt the principle of safe drug use in drug applications.
6.Understand the importance of fluid-electrolyte balance and drug dose adjustment in dialysis patients.
7.Learn how to prevent drug administration errors in terms of patient safety.
