The aim of this course is to teach the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of drugs and to provide students with knowledge and skills regarding their mechanisms of action, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and principles of safe and effective clinical use.
This course covers the sources, chemical and structural properties of drugs, as well as the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The processes of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion; mechanisms of action, drug interactions, dosage principles, and routes of administration are examined in detail. Adverse and toxic effects are evaluated, and the principles of safe and effective clinical use of drugs are explained. Drug groups affecting the nervous, endocrine, respiratory, digestive, and cardiovascular systems, as well as chemotherapeutics, are systematically reviewed. In addition, drug residues in animal-derived food products and the licensing, distribution, sale, and regulation of drugs are addressed. The course also introduces the fundamental concepts of toxicology, including plant and metallic poisons, mycotoxins, pesticides, and environmental toxic substances, aiming to provide a comprehensive perspective in the fields of pharmacology and toxicology.
