Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the types of feed used in animal nutrition according to different animal species.

Course Content

This course aims to teach the basic concepts of animal nutrition and the use of feed according to different animal species. It begins with the digestive characteristics of animals and feed evaluation systems. The properties of roughage and concentrate feeds, as well as energy and protein feeds, are explained. The feeding requirements and nutrient needs of calves, heifers, and cows according to their age and production stage are covered in detail. Additionally, information is provided on feed ingredients used for poultry and horses. In the later topics, students learn how to calculate daily rations for cattle, sheep, horses, chickens, pigs, cats, and dogs, as well as different ration calculation methods (Pearson square, equations, trial-and-error, matrix).

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week 1 - Theoretical

Introduction of animal feding and digestive properties.

Week 2 - Theoretical

Feed evaluation systems,factors that affects on feed digestibility,nutritious and feed stuff worth of feeds.

Week 3 - Theoretical

Fodder,properties of fodder,wet fodder(gren feeds,silage feeds,grassland feeds),dry fodder(dry grass,haulm).

Week 4 - Theoretical

Concentrate feeds,energy feeds,general features of feeds,grains,oils,vegetable and animal origin protein feeds,general features of protein feeds.

Week 5 - Theoretical

Basic information about calf and heifer feding and feed stuffs needs of these animals.

Week 6 - Theoretical

0-2 and 3-5 month calf feding,6-12 month and elder age heifer feding.

Week 7 - Theoretical

Basic information about cow feding in lactation and dry area and food stuff needs.

Week 8 - Theoretical

Basic information about cow feding in lactation and dry area and food stuff needs.

Week 9 - Theoretical

Cow feding in lactation and dry area by periods.

Week 10 - Theoretical

Short information about feedstocks which used on feed production for winged animals.

Week 11 - Theoretical

Short information about feedstocks that used on horse feding.

Week 12 - Theoretical

Calculation of daily ration needs of cattle,sheep,horse,chicken,pig,cat and dog.

Week 13 - Theoretical

Teaching the different ration calculating methods(pearson square,equation,matrix)
