The Art and Ethics course aims to enable students to critically examine and evaluate the ethical issues that arise in the creation, presentation, and reception of art. It seeks to establish a balance between artistic freedom of expression and social responsibility by exploring the ethical obligations of the artist, the societal impact of artworks, and the ethical responsibilities of the audience. Through the analysis of historical and contemporary examples, the course encourages a multifaceted understanding of the ethical dimensions of art.
This course explores the complex relationship between art and ethics from a multidisciplinary perspective. It examines philosophical and ethical debates surrounding the nature, purpose, and social function of art. Topics include the ethical responsibilities of artists, the tension between freedom of expression and moral boundaries, censorship, cultural appropriation, gender, environmental and animal rights, war, and politics in art. The course also addresses the ethical roles of art institutions such as museums, galleries, and curators. Through theoretical texts and contemporary artistic examples, students will develop a deeper understanding of the ethical dimensions of artistic practices.
