Objectives of the Course

To introduce the role of artificial intelligence technologies in design, production, analysis and presentation processes in handicrafts and to enable students to use these technologies creatively.

Course Content

This course explores the intersection between traditional crafts and artificial intelligence, focusing on the reinterpretation of conventional motifs and surface designs through digital design and production technologies. Students are introduced to the basic principles of artificial intelligence and its applications in creative design processes. Generative AI tools are used to develop original patterns for ceramics, woodwork, and other materials in hands-on sessions. The course also covers how AI-generated designs can be integrated into production technologies such as CNC, 3D printing, and laser cutting. Ethical issues, copyright, and cultural heritage aspects related to AI-assisted art and design are also discussed.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explain the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence applications in traditional crafts.
2.Digitally transfer traditional motifs using AI-assisted design tools.
3.Develop original patterns and surface designs using generative AI design techniques.
4.Relate AI-generated designs to appropriate production technologies (e.g., CNC, 3D printer, laser cutting).
5.Evaluate ethical, copyright, and cultural heritage issues encountered in AI-based art production.
