Objectives of the Course

The purpose of this course is to transfer the necessary information practically on all the subjects related to fruit growing (general fruit growing and fruit growing technique) and to train individuals who can find logical solutions to the problems on these subjects. Our aim is to introduce vine trees and grape growing techniques; to teach biological and technical specialities; to enable them to gain the ability to learn theoretical and practical knowledge for the realisation of propagation, the growing techniques and cultural application.

Course Content

This course contents; the historical development of fruit growing, its economical importance and classification of fruit species; morphological and biological features of the fruit trees organs such as root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit; climatic and soil requirements of fruit trees; generative and vegetative propagation methods; nursery trees growing, orchard establishment; cultural practices (soil cultivation, irrigation, fertilizing, pruning, controlling of diseases and pests and harvesting). Developing and distribution of vine trees, history of grape growing, situation of grape growing in Turkey and the world, classification of grapevine, tissueas and parts of grape, ecological limitations, and their effects on site selection, ways of grape processing, propagation, pruning and training, cultural practices
