Objectives of the Course

The matters of Ottoman Empire after the First World War will be evaluated. The Turkish independence struggle (1919-1922) under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha will be analyzed politically, militarily and economically. In addition, the Treaty of Lausanne and the results will be evaluated.

Course Content

Ottoman Empire obligated to sign the Armistice of Mudros at the end of the World War I. Many provinces were occupied, including the capital Istanbul. Turkish National Struggle was successful which started under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha and Republic of Turkey founded. Nationalism and modernization are created founding philosophy.
