Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to acquire basic knowledge about the mechanisms of action, uses, and side effects of drugs, and to learn the fundamental principles of safe and correct drug use.

Course Content

This course examines the fundamental concepts of pharmacology, including the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion processes of drugs in the body. It also covers the mechanisms of action, drug interactions, side effects, and drug safety. The course covers key drug groups such as analgesics, antibiotics, cardiovascular drugs, and central nervous system drugs; and evaluates the principles of safe drug use that should be considered in home care settings.

Learning Outcomes
1.Analyzes core pharmacological principles in relation to operating room and clinical applications
2.Assesses pharmacokinetic processes—absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME)—with respect to patient safety.
3.Compares commonly used drug classes in relation to surgical procedures and clinical indications, and determines appropriate drug selection.
4.Evaluates potential risks through the application of safe medication administration, sterilization, and infection control principles.
5.Calculates medication dosages for diverse patient populations (adult and pediatric), utilizes health information technologies for planning, and ensures effective implementation within an interdisciplinary team.
