The aim of this course is to enable students who will work in pre-hospital emergency healthcare services to recognize forensic cases, understand the principles of approaching forensic incidents, and gain knowledge of the relevant legal processes. Within this scope, it is aimed that students develop knowledge and awareness regarding ensuring the safety of the scene, patient, and rescuer during medical interventions, preserving and properly transferring evidence to the relevant authorities, explaining forensic reporting and official documentation procedures, and evaluating their professional responsibilities within ethical and legal frameworks.
This course covers the fundamental concepts of forensic medicine, the definition and classification of forensic cases, and the principles of approaching forensic incidents in the pre-hospital setting. The course includes topics such as crime scene investigation and management, preservation and collection of evidence, death and postmortem changes, forensic traumatology, firearm injuries, asphyxia, and forensic toxicology. In addition, forensic cases such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and neglect and abuse in special groups are examined within their ethical and legal dimensions. By the end of the course, students are expected to gain knowledge of forensic reporting and official documentation procedures.
