This course is designed to help aspiring operating room technicians and healthcare technicians acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills related to the operating room environment. Students will develop professional competence in creating a sterile and safe operating room environment, ensuring infection control, preparing the surgical team and supplies, and maintaining and using surgical instruments.
The course begins with an overview of the physical and technical requirements of an ideal operating room environment. It then provides a detailed examination of sterilization and disinfection methods, as well as infection control principles in the operating room. Preparation of the operating room and sterile supplies, the surgical team’s preparation process, and hand hygiene practices are covered using both theoretical and hands-on approaches.In the second half of the course, operating room cleaning standards, as well as the maintenance, cleaning, and characteristics of surgical instruments, are examined. Finally, the course concludes with a discussion of the types and characteristics of suture materials used in the operating room.
