Objectives of the Course

The course also aims to enable students to become familiar with surgical instruments, equipment, and materials used in surgeries performed in different surgical branches, and to gain knowledge and skills regarding the preparation, use, and management of these materials in the preoperative and postoperative processes. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to learn the material preparation processes specific to surgical procedures and to effectively apply patient safety, sterilization, and aseptic technique principles in operating room practices.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental characteristics of body systems, as well as surgical instruments, equipment, and materials used in the fields of urogenital system, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, gastrointestinal system (upper and lower gastrointestinal tract), endocrine system, and plastic-reconstructive-aesthetic surgery. Throughout the course, the properties, applications, and preoperative preparation processes of materials specific to these surgical branches are covered both theoretically and practically. The aim is to develop students' professional competence in preparing surgical materials, collaborating with surgical team members, and operating room practices.

Learning Outcomes
1.It describes the basic materials and instruments used in the fields of urogenital, ocular, ENT, gastrointestinal, endocrine systems, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
2.Explains the purposes, characteristics, and differences of materials and instruments specific to each surgical specialty.
3.It refers to properly preparing the patient and the Mayo table, knowing the type of surgery.
4.By examining the requirements of the planned operation, it justifies the selection of the correct materials in terms of patient safety and infection control.
5.Evaluates practices in surgical instrument management within the framework of patient safety, ethical principles, and professional standards.
