Objectives of the Course

The aim is to teach the basic concepts of sterilization and disinfection, introduce methods for controlling microorganisms, familiarize students with the techniques, equipment, and quality control steps used in sterilization processes, and enable them to gain knowledge about safe practices in accordance with infection control principles.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental concepts of sterilization and disinfection within the scope of infection control, as well as hospital infections and prevention methods. Material preparation, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization methods are taught. Additionally, process control, packaging, storage, validation, and waste management are addressed.

Learning Outcomes
1.The infection chain encompasses fundamental concepts related to hospital-acquired infections, asepsis, antisepsis, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization.
2.Explains sterilization methods, the chemical solutions used, and the operating characteristics of sterilizers by comparing them with each other.
3.Select the appropriate type of sterilization for different equipment.
4.Personal protective measures and waste management practices are evaluated within the framework of infection control, patient safety, and professional ethical principles.
