Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to train qualified healthcare professionals who can understand organizational and management processes in an operating room environment, effectively utilize human resources, prioritize patient and employee safety, are aware of legal and ethical responsibilities, and plan and coordinate operating room operations. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to evaluate fundamental management components such as record keeping, documentation, environmental management, and waste management in operating room processes from a holistic perspective.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental concepts of operating room management and organization, human resources management in the operating room, personnel assignment, and intra-team communication processes. It also examines the planning and implementation of operating room orientation programs, patient and employee safety in the operating room, waste management, record keeping and documentation practices, and physical building characteristics.

Learning Outcomes
1.It defines and explains fundamental concepts related to operating room management, organizational structure, human resources processes, and patient safety.
2.She /He explains and exemplifies the principles of safety in the operating room, including physical structure, environmental safety, and waste management, in her/his own words.
3.It implements operating room planning and coordination in routine, emergency, disaster and pandemic scenarios according to relevant procedures.
4.It analyzes operating room record and documentation processes by relating them to the legal aspects of patient safety.
5.It evaluates the operating room orientation program and patient/visitor admission procedures according to effectiveness and quality criteria.
