The objective of this course is to provide students with the historical development of permanent hair styling (perming and straightening/defrizing) processes and their physicochemical effects on the hair shaft and scalp on a scientific basis. It aims to enable students to comprehend these chemical processes that intervene with the structural bonds (disulfide bonds) of the hair, to determine the appropriate permanent styling methods and winding techniques according to the current condition of the tissue, to generate analytical solutions to chemical and physiological problems that may be encountered during the process, and to attain the competence to perform applications safely and at professional standards.
This course covers the theoretical and practical foundations of perm (curling) and straightening (defrizing) processes that chemically restructure the hair. Within the framework of the curriculum, the definition of permanent styling processes, the tools and materials used, and the physicochemical reactions of chemical agents on the hair and scalp are examined in detail. Furthermore, perm methods, winding techniques, and processing steps of straightening are discussed; the theoretical foundation is transformed into advanced professional practice by being supported by the scientific analysis of complications that may be encountered in chemical processes, solution methods, and intensive applications performed directly on the hair.
