Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide students with a fundamental understanding of human anatomy and physiology, the histological structure and functions of hair and skin, and common disorders, enabling them to select appropriate products/methods in professional practice and recognize dermatological boundaries (medical referral criteria).

1.Explains the structure and functions of systems related to basic human anatomy and physiology.
2.Defines the morphological, chemical structure, and growth phases (anagen, catagen, telogen) of hair.
3.Differentiates the layers of the skin (epidermis, dermis, hypodermis) and its physiological functions.
4.Analyzes primary and secondary lesions and structural disorders observed in the skin and scalp.
5.Recognizes common contagious and non-contagious hair and skin diseases; applies salon hygiene and client safety protocols.
6.Differentiates between cosmetic intervention boundaries and conditions requiring medical referral in beauty and hair services.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Basic Concepts of Anatomy and Physiology (Definition of anatomy and physiology, levels of organization; cell, tissue, organ, system, anatomical position and directions)
Week 2 - Theoretical
Body Systems I: Respiratory, Circulation, and Nervous Systems (General structure of the systems, anatomy of the head and neck region, and their physiological relationship with beauty/massage applications)
Week 3 - Theoretical
Body Systems II: Movement, Digestion, and Excretion Systems (Structure of the skeletal and muscular system, posture analysis for specialist health, ergonomics, and work physiology)
Week 4 - Theoretical
Hair Structure and Functions (Anatomy of the hair follicle, chemical composition of hair, keratin molecular structure and sulfur bonds, hair growth phases; anagen, catagen, telogen)
Week 5 - Theoretical
Scalp Structure and Functions (Histology of the scalp, role of sebum and sweat glands, scalp flora, acid mantle, and pH balance)

Structure of the Skin (Epidermis and its sub-layers, dermis layer, collagen and elastin fibers, hypodermis/subcutaneous tissue, melanocytes, and skin pigmentation mechanism)
Week 7 - Theoretical
Functions of the Skin (Protection, thermoregulation, sensory perception, secretion, absorption functions, and pathways of cosmetic products through the skin)
Week 8 - Theoretical
Analysis and Classification of Skin and Hair Types (Determination of dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin types; Fitzpatrick phototypes; hair type classification and creating a professional salon chart)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Primary Elementary Lesions on the Skin (Definitions of macule, papule, nodule, plaque, vesicle, bulla, pustule, and risk factors of these lesions in salon applications)
Week 10 - Theoretical
Secondary Elementary Lesions on the Skin (Morphological characteristics of squame/dandruff, crust, erosion, ulcer, fissure, cicatrix/scar, and lichenification processes)
Week 11 - Theoretical
Contagious Common Hair Diseases (Pediculosis, Tinea Capitis/ringworm, folliculitis infections, and cross-contamination prevention/sterilization protocols in hair salons)
Week 12 - Theoretical
Common Non-Contagious Hair Diseases (Types of alopecia; androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata; seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff problem, and trichological care approaches)
Week 13 - Theoretical
Contagious Common Skin Diseases (Herpes Simplex, warts/HPV, impetigo, scabies; contraindication states in beauty salons and the ethics of client referral to medical units)
Week 14 - Theoretical
Common Noncommunicable Skin Diseases (Stages of Acne Vulgaris, eczema/contact dermatitis, rosacea, melasma/hyperpigmentation problems; chronological aging and photo-aging physiology)
