Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of long-term care services, chronic diseases, and care approaches for different system-related diseases. The course also aims to enable students to explain the effects of chronic diseases on individuals and the health care system, and to recognize basic care needs in endocrine, metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal/connective tissue, and immune system diseases.

Course Content

This course covers the definition and scope of long-term care services, characteristics of chronic diseases, common chronic diseases in the world and in Türkiye, effects of changes in population and disease patterns on the health care system, and care in endocrine, metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal/connective tissue, and immune system diseases.

1.Explains the definition, scope, and place of long-term care services within the health care system.
2.Explains the basic characteristics and prevalence of chronic diseases and their relationship with changes in population and disease patterns.
3.Explains the basic care needs in endocrine, metabolic, cardiovascular, and respiratory system diseases.
4.Explains the basic care needs in urinary, digestive, neurological, musculoskeletal/connective tissue, and immune system diseases.
5.Evaluates the long-term care needs of individuals with chronic diseases using a holistic approach and recommends appropriate basic care approaches.
