Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students with basic care practices for bedridden patients, individuals requiring mobilization, and patients with different system-related health problems. The course also aims to enable students to explain care needs related to respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, neurological, and urinary system problems, and to learn basic care principles for diabetic foot, sleep problems, and terminal care.

Course Content

The course covers patient mobilization, care of bedridden patients, fall prevention, care in fluid-electrolyte imbalances, respiratory care practices, gastrointestinal system care, musculoskeletal diseases, dermatological problems, cardiovascular system problems, diabetic foot care, care in neurological diseases, urinary system care practices, sleep problems, and terminal patient care.

Learning Outcomes
1.Determines the individual’s basic care needs based on assessment findings.
2.Describes basic care interventions for respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, urinary, neurological, and dermatological problems.
3.Implements care practices for commonly encountered clinical conditions in accordance with patient safety and aseptic principles.
4.Plans and implements appropriate care for patients with diabetic foot, stoma, urinary catheterization, and terminal care needs.
5.Provides holistic care by considering the patient’s physical, psychological, and social needs.

Care applications for the respiratory system (respiratory and cough exercises, oxygen and aspiration application, Tracheostomy care)

Care applications for the gastrointestinal system (Constipation and Diarrhea care practices, Stoma patient care)
