Objectives of the Course

The aim is to teach fundamental concepts related to aging and the aging process; to enable students to understand the biological, physiological, psychological, and social dimensions of aging; and to ensure that students can evaluate the needs of older individuals with a holistic approach, adopt practices that support healthy aging, and embrace fundamental approaches in the field of gerontology.

Course Content

This course covers fundamental concepts related to gerontology and aging, theories of aging, the biological, physiological, psychological, and social dimensions of aging, demographic aging, health and care needs of older individuals, healthy and active aging, factors affecting quality of life, rights of the elderly, ethical principles, national and international policies and services for the elderly, and current approaches and practices in the field of gerontology.

3.Evaluates individual, environmental, and societal factors that affect the quality of life of older individuals.
4.Analyzes the demographic characteristics and aging trends of the elderly population in Türkiye and around the world.
5.Describes preventive approaches that support healthy and successful aging, the rights of the elderly, and fundamental practices in the field of gerontology.
