Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students with basic concepts related to women’s health, pregnancy, newborn care, child health, and home care practices. The course also aims to enable students to explain basic care needs in obstetric and gynecological problems, recognize family planning methods, and learn home care principles during the prenatal, postnatal, newborn, and postoperative periods.

Course Content

The course covers the importance of women’s health, pregnancy and family, newborn period and family, prenatal and postnatal home care practices, newborn home care, child health practices, childhood vaccination and immunization practices, common obstetric and gynecological problems, family planning methods, and postoperative home patient care practices.

1.Explains the importance of women’s health and its relationship with home care services.
2.Evaluates the care needs of the mother and family during pregnancy, the prenatal period, and the postpartum period using a holistic approach.
3.Explains the basic care needs of the individual and family during the newborn and childhood periods.
4.Explains the basic care and follow-up principles related to child health, vaccination, and immunization practices.
5.Identifies home care needs and recommends appropriate basic care approaches in common obstetric and gynecological problems.
6.Explains the basic counselling and care principles related to family planning methods.
7.Evaluates the basic care needs observed in clinical practice and during the postoperative period in accordance with the principles of patient safety, communication, and support.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
The importance of women’s health and its relationship to home care services. Clinical practice orientation session; explanation of practice settings, attendance requirements, student responsibilities, practice guidelines, patient safety, professional ethics, record-keeping, care plan development, and evaluation criteria for practice.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Pregnancy and the family; care needs of the mother and family during the prenatal period. The start of the clinical practice process; students conduct activities such as observation, identifying care needs, participating in basic care procedures, maintaining records, and evaluating cases, in accordance with the patient profile at the clinical site.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
The neonatal period and the family; basic care needs of the newborn and the family.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Prenatal and postnatal home care practices
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Home care practices for newborns.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Child health practices
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Childhood vaccination and immunization practices
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Childhood vaccination and immunization practices / Midterm exam.

Home care practices for patients during the postoperative period; assessment of care needs in accordance with the principles of patient safety, communication, and support. The clinical practice process is evaluated and completed in accordance with the practice evaluation form.
