To enable students to learn about zero waste, waste management, resource cycles, and circular economy principles; and to evaluate sustainable production and consumption models.
Zero waste is a management approach that aims to use resources efficiently, prevent waste generation, and recover generated waste to reintegrate it into the economy. This approach aims to protect natural resources, reduce environmental pollution, and support sustainable development. Circular economy, on the other hand, is an economic system that replaces the traditional "produce-use-dispose" model with a system where products and materials are kept in use for as long as possible. In this model, products are reused, repaired, renewed, and recycled, thus preserving their economic value. Zero waste and circular economy are complementary concepts. While zero waste aims to reduce the amount of waste and increase recycling, the circular economy supports sustainable production and consumption by ensuring that resources remain in a continuous cycle.
