Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to enable students to understand the fundamental concepts of financial management, financial decision-making processes in businesses, financial planning, and sources of financing; and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to analyze and interpret financial decisions by applying the basic methods used in working capital management, financial analysis, and the evaluation of investment projects.

Course Content

This course covers the basic concepts, objectives, and functions of financial management; the role of the financial manager in a business; financial markets and financial institutions; financial analysis; financial planning; working capital management; cash, accounts receivable, and inventory management; short- and long-term sources of financing; and the time value of money. In addition, static and dynamic methods used in the evaluation of investment projects (payback period, accounting rate of return, net present value, and internal rate of return) are examined through practical applications, and financial decision-making processes are reinforced with Excel-based examples.

3.Compares and evaluates short-term and long-term sources of financing in light of businesses’ financing needs.
4.Applies the basic methods used in evaluating investment projects based on the time value of money (Payback Period, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return, etc.) and interprets the results.
5.Takes an analytical approach to fundamental problems in financial management, develops appropriate solutions, and evaluates the results from a professional perspective.
