Objectives of the Course

The primary objective of the Professional English course is to equip students in the Banking and Insurance Program with the ability to follow international literature by introducing them to the professional terms, concepts, and terminology used in the finance and banking sectors on a global scale in a foreign language. In line with the course’s learning outcomes and program objectives, the goal is to enhance students’ English language proficiency regarding banking products, exchange rates, investment portfolios, and basic accounting processes.

Course Content

This course begins with an exploration of the English terminology related to personal finance management, budgeting, and various professions and career paths in the banking sector. As part of the course, the products and services banks offer to their customers, as well as customer expectations, are analyzed in English; basic banking transactions, international money transfers, and exchange rates are discussed in the context of financial literacy. In the following weeks, the world of investing, types of portfolios, and investment instruments, as well as financial reporting terms relevant to a career in accounting and general macroeconomic concepts, are covered using a holistic approach supported by English-language sources and case studies.
