Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of culture, cultural diversity, cultural heritage, social responsibility, ethics, and social justice. The course seeks to foster respect for cultural differences, critical thinking, ethical awareness, and sensitivity to social issues while encouraging students to become solution-oriented and socially responsible individuals. It also aims to enhance students' knowledge, skills, and awareness in the areas of cultural awareness, inclusion, media literacy, volunteering, sustainability, and active citizenship.

Course Content

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to culture, cultural identity, cultural diversity, and cultural heritage while examining intercultural communication, social values, ethics, social responsibility, social justice, and active citizenship from an interdisciplinary perspective. The course also explores cultural representation in media, cultural conflict and reconciliation, volunteering, corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, local responses to global challenges, and the promotion of cultural awareness through education. Through contemporary case studies, discussions, and learner-centered activities, students are expected to develop cultural awareness, critical thinking, ethical judgment, and social responsibility competencies.

7.Develop local solution proposals for global challenges while demonstrating active citizenship and community engagement.
8.Adopt lifelong learning by respecting cultural diversity, thinking critically, acting ethically, and demonstrating social responsibility.

Introduction to Culture: Definition of culture, fundamental components, cultural identity and cultural diversity.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Cultural Interaction and Communication: Intercultural communication, cultural change, adaptation, assimilation and integration.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Cultural Heritage: Tangible and intangible cultural heritage, heritage conservation and UNESCO World Heritage.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Cultural Norms and Values: Social norms, value systems, cultural taboos and their social impacts.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Cultural Representation and Media: Cultural representation in media, stereotypes, prejudices and the role of social media in cultural awareness.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Cultural Conflict and Reconciliation: Causes of cultural conflicts, conflict resolution methods and the culture of peace in multicultural societies.
Week 7 - Theoretical
The Concept of Social Responsibility: Responsibility and social responsibility, individual and institutional responsibility, historical development.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Social Issues: Poverty, inequality, discrimination, environmental problems, sustainability and equal opportunities in education.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Social Responsibility Projects: Volunteering, civic engagement, corporate social responsibility and best practice examples.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Media and Social Responsibility: Social impacts of media, media literacy and digital citizenship.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Ethics and Social Responsibility: Ethics and morality, ethical decision-making processes and ethical practices in professional life.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Cultural Awareness and Social Justice: Diversity, inclusion, identity politics and the relationship with social justice.

Global Challenges and Local Solutions: Local approaches to global challenges, sustainable development and community participation.
