Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students studying in the field of child development with fundamental knowledge about AI-powered applications and digital education tools that can be used in early childhood; to enable them to evaluate these technologies in accordance with developmental characteristics, ethical principles, and children's rights; and to support their conscious, safe, and creative use in educational processes. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to improve their technological literacy in AI-powered content creation, activity planning, material development, and digital communication processes with families.

Course Content

This course covers the concept of artificial intelligence, digital transformation in early childhood education, and AI-based tools and applications used in education. Students engage in hands-on activities such as selecting age-appropriate digital content, creating activities and materials with AI, generating stories, designing visuals, applying gamification, and individualized learning processes. Topics such as screen time, data privacy, ethical principles, children's digital safety, and the teacher's role in the use of AI are also examined. The aim of the course is to train students to become professionals who can critically evaluate technology in early childhood education.

Week 1 - Theoretical
The concept of artificial intelligence, its basic components, use cases in education, and its place in early childhood education.
Week 2 - Theoretical
The impact of digital technologies on preschool education: opportunities and limitations, the changing role of the teacher.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Introduction to tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Canva AI, and similar applications; examples of their use in child development.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Worksheets, activity plans, coloring pages, flashcards, and classroom materials are created with the help of artificial intelligence.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Creating age-appropriate stories, fairy tales, drama texts, and content that supports language development using artificial intelligence.
Week 6 - Theoretical
AI-powered visual generation, presentation preparation, poster and short training video creation; copyright and ethical principles.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Examining digital content in terms of age appropriateness, developmental characteristics, reliability, pedagogical quality, and screen time.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Evaluation of educational materials or activity plans prepared by students using artificial intelligence.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Effective prompt preparation, proper questioning techniques, and methods for obtaining high-quality output.
Week 10 - Theoretical
The use of artificial intelligence tools in adapting materials for children with different developmental needs.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Parent information texts, home activities, progress reports, and the use of digital tools in family communication.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Personal data protection, children's rights, artificial intelligence ethics, misinformation, and safe usage principles.

Students will prepare a preschool activity plan, material set, and evaluation form with the help of artificial intelligence.
