Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to raise awareness about the properties, types and behaviors of polymeric materials, and to provide them with knowledge about the tests and analyzes required to determine the chemical, physical, mechanical and viscoelastic properties of polymers.

Course Content

ReChemical structure determinations in polymers, FTIR and NMR structure determinations; The concept of molecular size and distribution of polymers: Gel Permeation Chromatography; Thermal properties, glass transition temperatures, crystallization and melting behavior of polymers, DSC and TGA analysis; Module concept in polymers, dynamic mechanical tests, DMA analysis; Rheological properties of polymers, shear viscosity, shear stress and modulus measurements.

1.Know the definitions of polymer and monomer, the usage areas of polymeric materials
2.Understanding the properties and related behaviors of polymeric materials
3.Recognizing the structural properties and chemical structure determinations of polymers
4.Gaining information about the thermal behavior of polymers and analysis methods
5.To understand the mechanical and viscoelastic behavior of polymeric materials.
6.Gains the ability to work in groups and independently, acquires safe working skills in the laboratory, and gains solution preparation competence.
7.Uses laboratory equipment, including precision balances, ovens, and mixers, prepares reports based on experimental data, and gains the ability to access topics beyond laboratory experiment distribution.
