Objectives of the Course

To learn the structure and secretions of endocrine organs, their mechanisms of action, and to associate them with endocrine-related diseases.

Course Content

Introduction to endocrinology, Regulation of the functioning of systems by chemical messengers, Chemical Structure of Hormones, Mechanism of Action of Hormones, Classification of Hormones, Hormone control center hypothalamus, Endocrine organs and hormone secreting cells; Pituitary, Thyroid, Parathyroid, Adrenal Gland, Thymus, Pineal, Reproductive hormones, Pancreas, Gastrointestinal hormones, Endocrine-related diseases.

1.Knows the anatomical and histological structure of the tissues and organs that make up the endocrine system.
2.Understands the functioning of the endocrine system.
3.Learns the steps of hormone production in the cell.
4.Understands and explains hormone types and their mechanisms of action.
5.Becomes aware of the diseases that may occur due to hormone deficiency and excess.
6.Develops a scientific perspective on endocrine system diseases.
7.Discusses the knowledge he has acquired with his stakeholders in relevant environments.
8.Follows and interprets scientific platforms related to the endocrine system.

Hormone functions and mechanisms of action.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Pituitary gland anatomical, histological structure (cell types). (Quiz)

Hormones and functions of the pituitary gland.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Thyroid and parathyroid gland structure, hormones and functions.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Structure, hormones and functions of the male reproductive system.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Female reproductive system structure, hormones and functions. (Midterm exam)
Week 10 - Theoretical
Structure, hormones and functions of the adrenal gland.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Gastrointestinal system and pancreas hormones and their functions.

Structure, hormones and functions of the pinealand thymus gland.
