Objectives of the Course

This course aims to teach the cytogenetic structures and inheritance mechanisms of living organisms, to provide knowledge of the structural characteristics of plant material at the cellular level, and to demonstrate the potential genotypic and phenotypic effects that may arise through technical applications.

Course Content

The course covers the history of cytogenetics; general information on plant chromosomes; the equipment required to observe plant chromosomes; methods used for chromosome observation; chromosome staining techniques; preparation of chromosome slides; karyotype and idiogram analysis; chromosome banding techniques; sister chromatid exchange; and X-chromatin structures.
