Objectives of the Course

Decorative arts have an important place in the Turkish-Islamic world. Decorations were brought in together with architecture or independently. Metal, plaster, wood, binding, gilding and marbling are some of these decorative art forms. Our aim is to examine these arts in their own definitions, histories, developments, materials, techniques, and decorations and to present samples of the Turkish-Islamic period.

Course Content

Studying the manufacturing centers, materials, techniques and ornamentation programs of the samples produced with wood, metal and plaster in the Turkish Islamic Decorative Arts in detail, describing these materials and referring to their short histories.

1.To be able to comprehend the usage of wood, metal and plaster materials, techniques in the Turkish Islamic Decorative Arts
2.To be able to interpret the manufacturing centers of wood, metal and plaster used in the Turkish Islamic Decorative Arts.
3.To be able to interpret the ornamentation programs and development of wood, metal and plaster used in the Turkish Islamic Decorative Arts.
4.To be able to comment on the production centers and ornamentation programs of Turkish İslamic Decorative Arts.
5.Learns the origin and origin of wood, metal and plaster in the Turkish Islamic Decorative Arts and comprehends the interaction with other cultures.

Explaining definition of wood, its features, wood types used in architecture, techniques and patterns.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Explaining the beginning of the wood art and its development until the adoption of Islam.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Explaining usage of wood in the Islamic art and its samples with visuals.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Explaining usage of wood in the Anatolian Seljuk Period and its samples with visuals.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Explaining usage of wood in the Principalities Period and its samples with visuals.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Explaining usage of wood in the Ottoman Period and its samples with visuals.
