Objectives of the Course

To show the effects of modernity on historiography and to reveal how it affected Ottoman historiography and the historiography techniques, aims and ideologies of Ottoman historians.

Course Content

In this course, the concept of Modernity offers a perspective on social sciences and historiography in particular, and the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire caused transformations in historiography. The content of this course is to evaluate the effects of modern historiography techniques on Turkish historiography in the late Ottoman period, as much as possible, in the light of sample texts, to reveal the basic elements of the transformation in historiography, and to reveal the situation of Ottoman historiography in the developments in modern social sciences.
