Objectives of the Course

In this course the students will get the necessary information on the Balkan geography including the history and the ethnicity of the region. The characteristics of the Ottoman sovereignty over the Balkans, the provinces within the geography, the effects of the French Revlution over the Balkans will also be studied

Course Content

The Balkans before and during the era of the Ottomans will be analyzed. The first successful settlements of the Ottomans in the region, Rumeli province, the notables, Balkanic populations, Jews of Thessaloniki, The effects of the Russo-Ottoman War on the region, The Peace of Bucurest, the effects of Modernisation and the Tanzimat and the Ottoman legacy over the region will be studied.
