Objectives of the Course

It is aimed in this course to discuss the educational institutions and the policies in the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey.

Course Content

To teach educatin activities and institutions from establishment of Ottoman Empire to Tanzimat.

2.To understand the characteristics of the Ottoman education.
3.To compare the classical and the modern Ottoman education.
4.to be able to evaluate pre-Republican education institutions, minority and foreign schools, and the Unification of Education Law
5.to be able to evaluatethe developments in the field of education after the 1940s
