Objectives of the Course

In this course, it is aimed to give the student a chronological and thematic presentation of the events that shaped world history from prehistoric times until the end of the Middle Ages and to explain the political, socio-economic and cultural interactions between different civilizations in this time interval. Thus, within the framework of the discipline of history, the student is planned to gain the ability to evaluate human history as a whole. The student will gain the ability to understand and analyze world history with the methods of connection, comparison and correlation.

Course Content

Tarih öncesi dönemlerden başlayıp Orta Çağ’ın sonlarına kadarki süreçte dünya genelinde meydana gelen ve insanlık tarihine yön veren gelişmeleri ele almak, bu dersin özet içeriğini oluşturur. İnsanoğlunun ilk ziraî ve ticari faaliyetleri ve sonrasında devlet bazlı kurumsallaşma tecrübeleri Mezopotamya, Mısır, Hint, Çin gibi medeniyetlerin ortaya çıkışı üzerinden değerlendirilecektir. Antik Yunan, Roma-Bizans, Hristiyanlığın gelişimi, İslamiyet’in doğuşu ve Türk-İslam devletleri, Orta Çağ Avrupası’nda feodalite, kilise egemenliği ve Haçlı Seferleri gibi konular bu dersin konuları olacaktır.

Learning Outcomes
1.The student explains the basic concepts and methods of history.
2.The student learns and compares the political, socio-economic, religious and cultural structures of the oldest civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and India.
3.Analyzes the interaction of Ancient Greece, Rome and Byzantium and the importance of these civilizations in world history
4.Evaluates the emergence, institutionalization and spread of Islam and the first encounters with Byzantium and Europe.
5.Learns the events that characterized medieval Europe such as the Church, feudalism and the Crusades.
6.Compare and analyze the developments of different civilizations in different geographies in the same periods.
