Objectives of the Course

Understanding the distinguishing characteristics of cinema and learning about the crucial concepts of cinema such as image, time, seeing.

Course Content

With reference to the relation between cinema and particulary photography, the historical background of cinema is explained and its position in modern times is discussed. The importance of Tarkovsky's conception of art for cinema is shown by reading his Sculpting in Time.
