Objectives of the Course

To look at some of the philosophical problems posed by today's fragmented notion of the subject through the implications of modern aesthetics for subjectivity.

Course Content

Various conceptions of subjectivity in the history of philosophy. Ontological, epistemological and existential significance of modern aesthetics.

1.To be informed about various conceptions of subjectivity in the history of philosophy.
2.To have insight into the ontological, epistemological and existential significance of modern aesthetics.
3.To be able to critically analyze and evaluate the claims about why modern subjectivity discussions should be made through aesthetics.
4.To engage with the philosophical thought of the philosophers discussed in the course through a detailed study of their texts.
5.To enhance the ability to understand, evaluate and discuss philosophical texts.

The ancient understanding of being as logos and cosmos. The subject as microcosm. The relationship between logos and beauty.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The relationship between God, the world and man in the Middle Ages.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Historical, cultural, scientific and philosophical aspects, causes and consequences of the collapse of the traditional world.
Week 7 - Theoretical
The birth of modern humanism. The attempt to ground existence on the subject's reflection on itself
