Objectives of the Course

TThe aim of this course is to teach the fundamental concepts, laws, and applications of thermodynamics; and to enable students to gain problem-solving skills by applying concepts such as heat, work, internal energy, and entropy to physical systems.

Course Content

Thermodynamic equilibrium and temperature, temperature scales, heat, specific heat and latent heat, thermal expansion and heat conduction, ideal gas laws, zeroth law of thermodynamics, work done by a gas and internal energy, first law of thermodynamics and its applications, adiabatic processes, kinetic theory of gases and kinetic calculation of pressure, heat engines, Otto cycle, second law of thermodynamics, Carnot cycle, entropy, and third law of thermodynamics.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Prof. Cesur EKİZ
Learning Outcomes
1.Defines and interprets thermodynamic concepts.
2.Explains the concept of entropy and applies it to thermodynamic processes.
3.Explains the laws of thermodynamics and applies them to physical systems.
4.Explains the kinetic theory of gases and applies it to the ideal gas.
5.Explains the working principles of heat engines.
6.Relates the acquired knowledge directly to technology and industry, and demonstrates its applications.
