Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the atomic structure of materials, interatomic bonding mechanisms, and the basic physical properties of solids. The course aims to develop an understanding of the effects of crystalline and amorphous structures, defects, and material classes on material properties, as well as the fundamental principles governing the electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermal behavior of materials.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental concepts of materials science, including atomic structure, interatomic bonding, electron configurations, and an introduction to quantum mechanics. Crystalline and amorphous structures, defects in solids, material classes, and their application areas are also examined. Furthermore, the electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermal properties of solids and their influence on material behavior are discussed.
