Objectives of the Course

This course approaches English literature from a historical perspective and aims to introduce students to the early sources of English literature by covering texts from various genres, beginning with the Anglo-Saxon period and extending to the fourteenth century.

A General Overview of the Old and Middle English Literary Periods

2.Establishes the connections of historical, social, cultural and religious aspects in transition from oral literature to the written literature.
3.Lays bare differences of the Old English works from the modern English and analyses in terms of literary content.
4.Reads sub-texts through symbols and myths by comparing literary texts.
5.Expresses and develops ideas by referring to literary texts.
6.Establishes cause and effect relationship between the events in the literary texts and characteristics of the period
7.Analyzes characters in the texts
8.Determines narrative technics and types in the texts
9.Develops critical perspective on literary texts
10.Expresses in written form the findings in the critically analyzed and read texts.
