Objectives of the Course

The origins and early development of drama are examined in outline from its classical foundations to the emergence of English theatre, with particular attention to key theoretical approaches to tragedy, classical dramatic traditions, medieval performance culture, and the development of English drama up to Shakespeare, through selected texts.

In the context of Introduction to English Literature, the development of drama from its origins to the Shakespearean period is examined in broad terms through selected texts.

Learning Outcomes
1.At the end of this course, the student will be able to evaluate English literature in broad terms within its historical, literary, and cultural development from the origins of drama to the Shakespearean period and early Elizabethan theatre.
2.The development of literature and literary genres will be examined and selected literary works analyzed in the light of those developments.
3.They learn different periods and writers
