Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine philosophical developments at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and to analyze their impact on literature. This course also includes a study of the works of leading modernist poets and playwrights of the 20th century.

Course Content

By examining the contributions of Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, Friedrich Nietcsche, Ferdinand de Saussure and Albert Einstein, students are expected to gain an insight to comrehend the philosophical and intellectual back ground of Monderism. Students are alsa expected to analyse the characteristics of the 20th century in the selected works

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to demonstrate knowledge of a range of poems and dramas derived from late 19th and 20th century;
2.To be able to demonstrate knowledge of the movements that emerged in the 20th century
3.To be able to analyse the 20th century literary movements emerged in literary pieces.
4.To be able to demonstrate knowledge of the emotional, economic and political factors that initiated the movements;
5.To be able to trace characteristics from the poems and dramas of the period.
