The science of usul al-fiqh, which develops a theoretical perspective on the measure of religious knowledge in Islam, has established a methodology not only for fiqh but also for other Islamic sciences. In this respect, it is of utmost importance for a seeker of knowledge to study the usul al-fiqh properly in order for him to see the criteria of correct and true religious knowledge and how to distinguish false claims from it. In this course, it is aimed to study the usul al-fiqh within this framework and to gain this notion that a theology graduate must have.
The content of the lecture consists of the purpose, function, history and literature of the science of usul al-fiqh, as well as the methods and basic concepts developed for the purpose of grounding authentic religious knowledge. In this context, the Qur'an, Sunnah and Ijma, which are the sources of judgments in Islamic law, and the issues of qiyas and istihsan, which are accepted as methods of deducing judgments, are discussed. In addition, in order to understand the sources, the main discussion points of the course are the meanings and divisions of the words and the issues of bayan, nesih, tearuz, preference and tawil.
