Objectives of the Course

To reveal the relationship between Islamic law and other legal systems and to recognize the controversial issues among the fiqh madhhabs and to comprehend the reasons for these debates.

Course Content

Comparative Islamic Law examines the formation of Islamic schools of law, their methodologies, jurisprudential approaches and reasons for differentiation, as well as the differences between Islamic law and Roman law and contemporary legal systems.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to recognize the formation and institutional structures of Islamic Legal Schools in the historical process.
2.To learn about the methodologies of Islamic schools of law.
3.To be able to explain the cultural, geographical, regional, and social reasons that lead to the differences of Islamic schools of law.
4.To be able to explain the methodological differences between Islamic law and other legal systems in history such as Roman law.
5.To know the basic issues on which the fiqh madhhabs differ.
