Objectives of the Course

To discuss the compatibility of the Islamic tradition of thought with modern theories of human rights and democracy.

Course Content

The meaning and historical development of the concepts of democracy and human rights. The understanding of governance and justice in various Muslim states in history, the points where Islamic thought and modern theories of human rights and democracy seem incompatible.

2.Can explain different forms and practices of democracy.
3.Discuss Islam and modern democratic values in comparison.
4.Can comprehensively discuss issues such as freedom of religion and conscience, women's rights in the context of modern human rights and Islamic values.
5.can evaluate why democracy cannot develop in the Islamic world.
