Objectives of the Course

With the opportunities provided by this course, the student and the researcher comprehend the sect and its affiliated elements as one of the main dynamics of the network of relations in the geography of the Middle East.

Course Content

Religion-state relations in the Middle East geography are quite intense. The balance of politics, economy, social structure and regional relations largely depends on this. Understanding this rich network of relations, which are carried out through open and hidden sectarian agendas, will make a great contribution to the discipline of international relations.

2.Knowledge about the reasons for the formations of sects in Islamic culture and the basic concepts is acquired
3.The contribution of sects to the Islamic idea system
4.Sect/religion relation and the basic functions of sect from the viewpoint of culture of religion is known
5.Sect/politics relations, cultural continuousness, global priciples, differences between local considerations is comprehended
6.The different religiousness models that the sects provide is discussed and learned
7.The belief, statistical and geographical conditions of sects having communities is learned
8.The expansion efforts of Islamic sects and their cultural and literal efforts in modern time is grasped
9.The effects of sects in modern political events are discussed and learned
10.The association of secterian identity and local belongness, the religious, sociala and political structures formed in this framework is discussed and apprehended
