This course aims to introduce students to the economic analysis of migration in terms of both its causes and consequences. Three actors of international migration will be examined using economic analysis methods.
The topics of the course include the study of individuals' decisions to migrate and return as well as the integration process in the country of origin. First, migrants will be analyzed. The second important actor is the destination countries. Discussions on the effects of migrant flows on the labor market, public finance and public behavior in these countries will be included. The third actor will be the sending countries and the effects of migration on their labor markets and public finances will be examined. The discussion will include the public policy implications of migration as well as the link between theoretical explanations and empirical findings.
