This course aims to teach the fundamental principles of criminal procedure law, the stages of criminal proceedings, and the functioning of the criminal justice system. It provides students with knowledge about the institutions, parties, and procedural rules involved in investigation and prosecution processes. The rights of suspects and defendants, the law of evidence, and the principle of a fair trial are examined in detail. Furthermore, current issues and recent developments in criminal procedure are evaluated.
The course begins with the fundamental concepts and principles of criminal procedure law. The stages of investigation and prosecution, the parties to criminal proceedings, and competent judicial authorities are examined. Protective measures, evidence, interrogation, and statement-taking procedures are discussed in detail. Indictments, trials, judgments, and legal remedies are evaluated. In addition, the right to a fair trial and the impact of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on criminal procedure law are analyzed from a human rights perspective.
