Objectives of the Course

The course on Contemporary Islamic Movements aims to examine the diverse religious, political, and intellectual currents that have emerged in the modern Islamic world, along with their historical and ideological backgrounds. It covers various approaches such as reformist, Salafi, modernist, traditionalist, and radical movements, analyzing their origins, core ideas, key figures, and current influences. The course seeks to equip students with the ability to critically evaluate the intellectual diversity of contemporary Islam within its proper context.

Course Content

Religious movements and groups are the biggest phenomenon of Modern Muslim societes. Understanding and analyzing these groups, which are very affective in politics, economy, culture and religious life, is very important.

1.Students, by learning Contemporary Islamic Movements will be able to have the opportunity to o know better the world they live in
2.to be able to compare Contemporary Religious Movements with one's own belief and to understand and appreciate another person's feelings, experience
3.to be familiar with the theological issues in modern texts and to benefit from this in academic research
4.to recognize the literature (including foreign language literature) in the field of modern Islamic theology and religious studies
5.to be able to have information about the search for reform and innovation in religion
6.to be able to comprehend the difference between traditional approaches and innovative approaches in Islam
